中之条町の桑

中之条ビエンナーレが開催される群馬県中之条町ではかつて養蚕業が盛んに行われ、その記憶は現在も町に残る桑の木に刻まれています。六合赤岩地区に残る桑の木を採集し、皮を剥ぎ、コンクリートブロックで叩きながらつなぎ合わせ、350 × 1100cm の面へと広げたインスタレーションです。土地に宿った時間を採集し、叩き、定着させるという一連の行為を通して、時間や環境、人々の営みの積み重ねが場所を築き続けてきた構造が立ち現れてきます。

In Nakanojo, Gunma, where the Nakanojo Biennale is held, sericulture once flourished, and its memory remains inscribed in the mulberry trees still standing throughout the town. Collecting mulberry trees from the Kuni Akaiwa district, I stripped their bark, beat them with concrete blocks, and joined them together to create an installation spanning 350×1100cm. Through the series of actions—collecting, beating, and fixing the time held within the land—the structure through which the ac cumulation of time, environment, and human activity has continued to build a place quietly emerges.
